Course outline
This course is perfect if you want to pursue a career in bricklaying, enjoy building and want to develop your skills in this trade.
You’ll learn a range of building techniques involving bricks, including cavity walls, block paving and walling, and importantly learn how to work safely on a site in a bricklaying role.
You’ll learn how different trades work side by side and hand in hand on a construction site.
You can expect skilled tutors who will ensure you understand the bricklaying process and how to use tools safely and confidently. You’ll work in dedicated workshops where you’ll get lots of building and brickwork practice.

Entry requirements | You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades 3–1 (D–G), including English Language and Maths at grades 3–1 (D–G), or a relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification. With this you will be asked to sit an initial assessment and this must show that you are ready to study English and maths at Level 1. If your results are lower than this, don't worry, we'll find the right course for you. |
Teaching & assessment | You will be assessed by completing a multiple choice paper, a practical assessment and an external online test. |
Progression | Choose to follow with further study at the College on a Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or onto another construction trade, or perhaps move into an Apprenticeship with a construction employer. |
