Course introduction

This course is perfect if you are wanting to refresh your current knowledge and learn new skills about straightening and smoothing.

You will learn:

  • Health, safety and hygiene
  • Preparation
  • Completing a straightening and smoothing service
  • Home and after care 

You can expect a dedicated team of lecturers who still work in the industry, so have up to date skills and experience. 

This will be a hands-on learning experience to ensure you get a solid grounding in the main straightening and smoothing techniques, using high quality products. 

Practical skills will be assessed when carrying out the service on a client, and your knowledge will also be tested with a multiple-choice exam.

This qualification will also help you improve communication and customer service skills, awareness of environmental sustainability and commercial skills, all of which are valued by the industry.

College Certificate 

You must have:

  • A level 2 hairdressing qualification as a minimum
  • A keen interest in subject area.
  • Good dexterity
  • A informal chat with tutor

Assessment is by practical assessment and multiple-choice test.

After completing this course, progression in further study could include other courses such as colour correction and afro Caribbean care and styling, to further develop your skills and experience with a broad range of products.
