Course introduction

This course is perfect if you are new to retail and want to build strong foundations in retail knowledge and customer service, are a jobseeker looking to increase your employability and confidence when applying for retail roles, or want to progress from entry-level knowledge to practical retail skills in one structured programme. It is also ideal for those currently working in retail who want to formalise their experience, gain recognised qualifications, and improve performance, as well as anyone interested in understanding how retail businesses operate, from customer experience to stock management, sales, and workplace responsibilities.

You will learn how to develop a strong understanding of the retail sector, including roles, responsibilities, and career pathways, while gaining the knowledge and confidence needed to provide excellent customer service, handle customer queries, and support positive customer experiences. The course will help you build practical retail skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and workplace professionalism, alongside an understanding of retail operations including stock control, merchandising, pricing, promotions, and sales processes. You will also learn about health and safety, security, and legal responsibilities within a retail environment, preparing you to work effectively and confidently in real-world retail roles.

You can expect a supportive and engaging learning experience that combines essential retail knowledge with practical, real-world skills. Throughout the course, you will take part in structured activities designed to build your confidence, improve your communication and customer service abilities, and help you understand how successful retail environments operate. The programme is designed to be accessible and career-focused, giving you the opportunity to develop recognised skills, prepare for employment in the retail sector, and progress towards further training or workplace opportunities.
