Ever wondered what it’s really like to work in the legal world? Our T Level in Legal Services: Crime, Criminal Justice and Social Welfare gives students the chance to step beyond the classroom and experience the law in action.

Equivalent to three A Levels, this two-year qualification combines academic study with real-world industry experience, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for a wide range of professional careers.

But this isn't just about learning legal theory. It's about understanding how the law shapes our communities, protects individuals and supports justice in everyday life.

Learning Through Experience

Our students don't just read about the legal system, they experience it.

From mock courtroom trials and legal debates to investigations, case studies and professional role-play, lessons are designed to bring legal concepts to life. Recently, students took part in a mock criminal trial exploring the difference between murder and manslaughter, taking on roles including judges, barristers, witnesses and jurors. They examined evidence, built legal arguments and delivered verdicts, gaining first-hand insight into how the justice system works.

One of the most popular activities on the course is the 'Teach the Teacher' challenge, where students research legal topics and lead lessons themselves, developing confidence, communication skills and deeper subject knowledge along the way.

Building Career Ready Skills

A key part of every T Level is the industry placement, giving students valuable workplace experience and the opportunity to apply their learning in professional settings.

Students can gain experience with legal organisations, law firms, public sector bodies and criminal justice partners. Our tutors have built relationships with organisations including legal centres, universities, in-house legal teams and Nottinghamshire Police to help students explore opportunities and build professional networks.

Alongside their studies, students create a Purple Professional Portfolio, recording achievements, skills development, research and professional experiences. This portfolio becomes a powerful tool for university applications, interviews and future employment opportunities.

More Than a Legal Career

While many students are interested in becoming solicitors or barristers, the course opens doors to much wider opportunities.

The knowledge and skills gained can support progression into careers such as:

  • Solicitor, barrister, paralegal or legal executive
  • Police officer, detective or probation officer
  • Youth justice or safeguarding practitioner
  • Compliance and regulatory roles
  • Public service and community support careers

Students can also progress to university courses in Law, Criminology, Professional Policing, Criminal Justice, Politics and related subjects, or move into apprenticeships and employment.

Learning From Industry Focused Experts

The course is led by a passionate teaching team whose experience spans legal education, criminology, safeguarding, business, criminal justice and public service.

Their combined expertise helps students connect legal theory with real-world challenges, professional ethics and the wider impact the law has on society.

Preparing Students For Their Future

Education should do more than help students pass exams. Our T Level in Legal Services encourages students to think critically, communicate professionally and develop the confidence to succeed in higher education, apprenticeships and employment.

As Course Lead Dr Barbie Nash explains:

"We believe legal education should extend beyond textbooks and examinations. Through practical learning, professional development and industry engagement, we aim to prepare young people not only for further study or employment, but for meaningful and rewarding careers where they can make a positive difference."

Whether students dream of a career in law, policing, criminal justice, safeguarding or public service, our T Level in Legal Services provides the foundation to make it happen.
