Nottingham College’s Partnerships Team is proud to highlight a growing and impactful collaboration with Balfour Beatty, one of the United Kingdom’s leading infrastructure organisations. This partnership demonstrates the strength of connecting education providers with industry leaders to create meaningful pathways into employment, particularly within the expanding area of sustainable construction.

A partnership with purpose

Balfour Beatty has been working closely with Nottingham College and The King’s Trust to enrich the learning experience of young people who are exploring careers in construction. As part of their involvement in the Lady Bay Footbridge project, Balfour Beatty offered valuable opportunities to learners that included on site enrichment sessions for King’s Trust classes, employment focused workshops such as CV preparation and interview support, and work experience placements for more than ten students. These placements allowed learners to gain genuine insight into a major live infrastructure project and better understand the wide range of roles available in the sector.

One particularly committed student from the first cohort demonstrated exceptional dedication and chose to complete additional weeks on the project to further strengthen his experience and skills.

Extending opportunities to future cohorts

The success of this initial partnership has laid the groundwork for ongoing collaboration. Nottingham College is now preparing to offer similar opportunities to:

  • Two further groups of King’s Trust learners
  • Interviews for participants of our Construction Solar PV Bootcamp, that launched again this month

These continued placements not only strengthen learners’ confidence and practical experience but also support Balfour Beatty in meeting project objectives and wider social value commitments.

The construction industry is changing rapidly as it moves towards more sustainable methods and low carbon technologies. The Green Skills Bootcamp has been created to prepare learners for these developments and to help them step confidently into new roles. By connecting them directly with employers such as Balfour Beatty, the programme offers an invaluable advantage for learners beginning their careers in a modern and evolving sector.

This partnership also reflects Nottingham College’s mission to connect learners with real employment opportunities while supporting businesses in developing a skilled and future ready workforce.

The relationship between Nottingham College and Balfour Beatty is a leading example of what can be achieved when industry and education work hand‑in‑hand. As we prepare to welcome new cohorts of learners, we are also inviting more businesses to collaborate with us.

By working with the College, employers can:

  • Support talent development within the local community
  • Strengthen their social value and skills‑pipeline commitments
  • Gain early access to motivated, pre‑trained future employees
  • Make a meaningful impact on learners who are ready to take their next step
