We’re thrilled to announce that Strategic Development Manager, Emma Shipstone, has been named a finalist in not one, but two national Good for Me Good for FE Awards, recognising her outstanding commitment to volunteering.

The Good for Me Good for FE Awards celebrate the incredible volunteering and fundraising efforts of staff and students from Further Education (FE) colleges across the UK. Emma has been shortlisted in two categories – ‘Staff Volunteer of the Year’ and ‘Inspirational Role Model of the Year’.

Alongside her 30-hour role at Nottingham College, Emma dedicates her spare time as CFO and founder of Gifts from Fairies, a charity she launched in February 2023 to bring joy to children living in poverty, experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic abuse, or coping with parental terminal illness. Inspired by her own experience as a solo parent, Emma has made it her mission to ‘spread a little happiness’ to children who need it the most with birthday and Christmas gifts.

Since its inception, Gifts from Fairies has supported 488 children and families, delivering 7,080 gifts worth over £27,265, including 2,097 books to promote childhood literacy.

Emma said:

“I am honoured and humbled to have been nominated and recognised as a finalist, and excited to be attending the House of Lords.”

Adding to this success, Nottingham College has also been shortlisted for the Volunteering Accreditation Excellence Award. Janet Smith will join Emma and other college representatives at a special event at the House of Lords on 5th December, where winners will be announced.

Being recognised in three categories highlights the depth of our impact - from supporting students’ personal and professional development to making a real difference in our communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this achievement.

Fingers crossed for the big day!
