Learn about Green Careers Week and the sustainable courses we offer.

This week (4th- 9th November 2024) is Green Careers Week! It’s an event to raise aspirations, supports diversity, challenges stereotypes, and promotes real opportunities for young people to have a career that will genuinely make a difference.

Green Careers Week helps people discover careers, jobs, roles and pathways that are green/ help develop green skills. As an increasingly fast-growing industry, that also impacts lots of other sectors, we feel it is important to offer courses that can give people the relevant skills for careers they can pursue in their futures.

Hear from Teodora

We recently spoke with Teodora, who studies Level 2 Understanding Environmental Sustainability with us almost a year ago. She has since been implementing the skills and knowledge she learnt on the course in her workplace.

She had always tried to be mindful of the environment but chose to look for a course that could give her a deeper understanding and knowledge of the subject. The flexibility of the course also attracted her to it, as a busy working mum, the ability to log in and complete the course at her own pace was incredibly helpful.

She said:

"I was part of the Green Team at work, and I joined the course with a few colleagues. Our goal was not only to make our workplace more sustainable but also to find ways the business could be more environmentally conscious. By the end of the course, we had loads of ideas and it felt great knowing that I had contributed to small changes that could make a real impact.

I would definitely recommend the course to anyone looking to upskill in this area. We all need to play our part in protecting the environment, and this course really elevates your understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed it. "

Hear from Mel

Mel McKechnie, our Catering and Commercial Services Manager also completed the Level 2 Understanding Environmental Sustainability with us.

She said:

"To do this course, will give you an understanding of where we need to be looking, where we need to research and the impact. I didn’t realise the impacts I could have.

Once I passed, I felt this wonderful sense of achievement at that I could do it and now sit on the sustainability committee at the college."

Mel now sits on the sustainability committee at the college. The committee aim to provide an effective working group mechanism that adopts and delivers environmental and sustainability measures, in line with the Nottingham College Environmental and Sustainability Policy, and regularly meets and communicates its outputs.
