We’re very proud of students from our construction department who recently took part in competitions across the region.

On the 1st June, some of our bricklaying students, Callum, Shantaye and Harry, took part in the 'Guild of Bricklayers' competition at Lincoln College. In the senior competition, participants had six hours to complete a joint finish featuring front and side elevations half round, rear and C recessed joints, contrasted bricks, and internally struck and shaded orange finishes. Harry placed an excellent 4th in the senior competition and a huge congratulations to Shantaye who won 1st place.

On the 2nd of June, 3 students competed in a regional heat at SkillBuild, the UK’s largest and longest-running multi-trade competition across12 trade specialisms, at Leeds College of Building. Josh, Harry (bricklaying students) and Liam (a plastering student) produced excellent models and were a credit to themselves and the college.

On the 28th of May, one of our Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery students, Mason Stammers, competed in a skill build competition at Moulton College as the only full time student in the heat, the rest being apprentices. He did himself and the college proud.

Natasha Fuller, lecturer at Nottingham College, said this about Mason's performance:

"Competing against Level 2 apprentices as a Level 1 student, Mason showed outstanding determination, resilience, and a positive attitude at SkillBuild. His efforts impressed tutors from across the region, proving that talent and commitment can shine at any level. We can't wait to see what he achieves next year!"
