Students at the Access to Healthcare and Social Care open event
Published on: Friday 4th October 2024 2:09 pm

Find out about how our Health and Social Care and Careers team set up new opportunities for our learners.

The event was to promote Higher Education and career paths to our Adult Access learners and to get them thinking about university choices for their UCAS application.

Alongside showing students opportunities in Higher Education the careers event also promoted jobs in the field as an alternative to university and let students know about what careers are available post university.

This event consisted of a marketplace of universities including our very own Nottingham College HE Team, University of Nottingham, Derby University, Lincoln University, Loughborough University, Birmingham City University and Sheffield Hallam.

We also had specialist employer talks from the Health and Social Care sector, with guest speakers from NHS Nursing, Nottingham Trent and Derby University giving advice on UCAS and personal statements, University of Law giving insights into Criminology and Psychology and Compass Community speaking on Social Work.

Our own staff also shared their experience of previous careers in Midwifery and Counselling and welcomed back one of our former Access students who has gone onto a career as a Mental Health Nurse!

We spoke to one of our students who shared their opinions of the event.

"I loved hearing everyone’s experiences within the healthcare industry because it gave me an idea on what to except. I loved that they spoke about what next steps you could possibly take whether that is doing a degree apprenticeship or going to university.

This gave me a taste of what options I had or could possibly go into. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and think it really benefited me."
