Our students are launching their pop-up fashion event today which will be running from 2nd-6th April located near John Lewis in the Victoria Shopping Centre.
Students have created an event which will feature a VR catwalk experience, portfolio advice, family activities and exhibit their work to promote sustainability in the fashion industry.
The event will give visitors an insight into life as a fashion student, showcasing their coursework and featuring interviews where students discuss the inspiration behind their designs. This will be achieved through a designed VR headset experience powered by AI.
The event is being held in a unit near John Lewis in the Victoria Centre and will include activities such as collaging with scrap fabrics, hand looms for weaving with upcycled materials and demonstrations of how to design your own AI room using virtual reality software.
Students from level 1 through to FDA and BA(hons), have been working on projects for this event. They have worked using sustainable inks, chemical free dyes, upcycling, and recycling products. Students have also looked at digital technology to limit the use of fabrics needed, this allows visitors to use VR headsets to view digital designs and portfolios that the students have created themselves.
Staff and students will be at the pop-up for members of the public to speak about their work, alongside some family friendly activities which will be available from 1pm-4pm today (2nd April) and then from 10am-4pm from Wednesday 3rd to Saturday 6th.
This pop-up has been a collaboration with It’s In Nottingham who have acquired a unit in the Victoria Centre for students to use, they have also reached out to local businesses to repurpose desks and equipment to use in the displays as part of a sustainability effort by recycling and reusing.
