Nottingham College is becoming a regular feature on award shortlists, and today is no exception. We're delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for Employer of the Year at the 2026 Business of the Year Awards!

The award recognises organisations that excel in supporting their workforce through areas such as skills and training, flexible working, workplace wellbeing initiatives, and support for employees. Nottingham College is committed to supporting and valuing its staff, championing physical and mental wellbeing, developing talent and skills, and offering flexible ways of working to create an inclusive and supportive workplace.

Since CEO and Principal Janet Smith joined the college in July 2022, Nottingham College has undergone a remarkable transformation. By working collaboratively with colleagues to shape the college's Strategic Plan, Mission, Vision and Values, trust has been rebuilt and engagement strengthened across the organisation.

The college was one of the first education institutions to support staff affected by endometriosis, menopause and other menstrual health conditions, and now has a team of 41 Mental Health First Aiders. Alongside regular CPD Days, flexible working opportunities, and recognition initiatives such as the STAR Awards and Long Service Awards, these initiatives help create a workplace where colleagues feel valued, supported and able to thrive.

This people-first approach has not only transformed the staff experience but has helped Nottingham College become the top-ranked FE college in the UK for workplace engagement. Being shortlisted for Employer of the Year is recognition of the incredible culture our colleagues have helped create, and we wish everyone involved the very best of luck at the awards.

The winners of the Business of the Year Awards 2026 will be announced at a special event taking place on October 15th 2026, fingers crossed
