As part of its social and legal responsibilities, the College has robust procedures in place to minimise the risk of identity, immigration or financial fraud. All higher education students must provide official proof of their legal name before they can enrol.
Here is a list of the accepted official forms of identity – one of these must be presented at the point of enrolment.
Documents submitted must be the originals. Scans, screenshots or photocopies are not acceptable.
If your legal name has changed since the document was issued – you must also present official evidence of the change – such as a Marriage/Civil Partnership certificate or Change of Name Declaration/Deed Poll.
As proof of your legal name, you must present one of the following valid form of identification documents.
Group 1
Where issued in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands (Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey), Gibraltar or the Isle of Man:
- Valid UK passport
- Full driving licence (prefer photo version)
- Provisional driving licence (photo version)
- Birth certificate
- Adoption certificate
- UK Naturalisation/Citizenship certificate
- Voter Authority Certificate
- Northern Ireland Electoral ID Card (issued by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland)
- Armed Forces ID Card
- National Insurance card or letter
- Benefits letter (e.g. Jobcentre Plus or Department for Work and Pensions)
- Council Tax bill (current year only)
- Home Office letter
- Student Finance confirmation letter
- Bank statement (dated within the last 3 months)
- Utility bill – but not a mobile (dated within the last 3 months)
Group 2
Where issued in Ireland/Éire (Republic of Ireland):
- Valid Irish passport or passport card
- Public Services Card
- Central Applications Office (CAO) (student finance confirmation letter)
An official document equivalent to the UK list in Group 1
Group 3
Where issued in the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) – the member countries are:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia/Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
- Valid passport
- Valid national ID card
- Valid photo ID card
Valid when accompanied by proof of settled or pre-settled status in the United Kingdom under the EU Settlement Scheme
Group 4
All other countries/territories:
- Valid passport or valid national ID card - with permission to study in the UK for the course duration – such as:
- Valid UK entry visa
- UK issued ID Card for Foreign Nationals
- Biometric Residence Permit
Documents will be checked during enrolment, recorded on the enrolment form and returned to the student on the day.
Where a student does not have an accepted form of ID they will be unable to enrol. Arrangements will be made for them to return later with the correct ID to complete enrolment. After a final cut-off date, students who have not presented their ID will be deemed to have failed to meet the legal requirements to enrol and the offer of a place will be withdrawn, in accordance with our published Terms and Conditions for HE Students.
