Course introduction
This course is perfect if you would like to start a career in digital technology or IT or progress to higher level study or even an apprenticeship.
You will learn:
- How to set up and configure technology systems
- About current and emerging technologies and how organisations use them
- Security protection and risk management for IT systems
- How to design IT service solutions for organisations
- Networking tools and applications
- How to install and maintain networks
This is a largely practical course with lots of hands-on computer work. You’ll have a fuller understanding and knowledge of technical support in the workplace and will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to undertake this role.

BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Digital Technology (Networking and Cybersecurity
You’ll need 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-3 (A*-D), including English Language and maths – one of English Language or maths must be grade 9-4 (A*-C).
Functional Skills Level 1 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 3 (D) and Functional Skills Level 2 can be used as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above.
You will be assessed by a combination of internal and external assessments:
- 33% external assessment through tasks and onscreen tests
- 67% internal assessment through assignments
You could progress to:
- Entry-level jobs in IT such as junior network engineer or network support
- A Level 3 qualification
- A Level 3 digital apprenticeships
- A T level in digital
Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
