With new technologies and roles emerging including in the Army, Navy and the RAF, Nottingham College can help you become future ready for a career in Defence and the Military. 

Where could a career in Defence take you? 

The UK Defence and Military sector is set to create thousands of new jobs by 2030. For students at Nottingham College, pathways are available in areas including: 

  • Engineering (aerospace, naval, weapons systems)
  • Uniformed / Protective Services
  • Cybersecurity and AI 

Looking further ahead, there are likely to be more sectors available for progression routes in Defence and the Military at Nottingham College, including logistics and supply chain management; science, innovation, and research; medical and resilience planning; education, training and leadership, and construction and infrastructure.

Our new Defence and Military Pathway 

Nottingham College’s Defence and Military Pathway is your gateway to a rewarding career in this vital industry. 

Launching for those starting in September 2026, Nottingham College’s brand-new Defence and Military Pathway is designed to give you the technical knowledge, practical skills and personal behaviour qualities that employers in this sector are going to be looking for.

Who is this for? 

Our Defence and Military Pathway is open to all students studying Engineering (Operations, Welding or Mechanical Manufacturing), Networking and Cybersecurity or Uniformed Services courses.

What does the Pathway involve? 

As well as your core qualification, signing up to the Defence and Military Pathway will take you on a purposeful programme throughout the year, focusing on developing your teamwork, discipline, communication and leadership skills. 

Expect a mix of physical training, Defence and Military industry days, taster sessions with armed forces, team-building activities, trips, excursions and much more.  

Taking part in this Pathway will give you an extra 15 days of timetabled attendance throughout the year and places are limited so apply today!

Ready to start your journey? 

Go to the apply page and choose one of the four courses listed below. When prompted on the application portal, tick the box that says 'Defence and Military Pathway' and this will ensure it is included on your application.

Please note:

  • All Engineering and Uniformed Services course applicants will need to gain a 4 or above in English and Maths to be able to enrol on the programme
  • Digital Technology (Networking Cybersecurity) (Level 2) can be part of the pathway if you need either Maths or English, but not both.
