Course outline
This course is perfect if:
- You want to develop your knowledge and skills of teaching and training with a specific focus on practical teaching/delivery;
- You are currently teaching and/or training and want to have your experience and practice accredited with a recognised qualification;
- You are not currently in a teaching or training role but have the desire to and can meet the minimum teaching practice requirements of 30 hours (evidence of teaching practice must be provided at interview).
You will learn:
- About roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.
- How to plan to meet students’ needs and how to deliver effective sessions to your students.
You will also learn about the different types and purposes of assessment in education and training and the importance of selecting the right resources for the topic and the individuals. In addition you will experience action learning, through which you will study literature related to an area of interest in teaching and learning, you will critique the literature and review and evaluate your own practice.
You can expect to be challenged but supported as you develop your skills and knowledge to become a confident and skillful teacher.

Entry requirements | You must be aged 19+, achieved Maths and English at Level 2 and have a relevant level 3 qualification in the subject you wish to teach. A DBS check and at least 30 hours of teaching in a post 14 environment. We consider every application on an individual basis and would be happy to have an informal discussion should you wish to talk about your current qualifications and experience. |
Teaching & assessment | You will be assessed via a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates your knowledge, understanding and practical ability to plan, deliver and reflect on your teaching and learning practice. In addition to your portfolio work you will also be observed delivering lessons on at least 3 occasions by a tutor from the teacher training team. These observations are supportive and provide trainees with an opportunity to experiment with new strategies and then engage in a developmental conversation afterwards to support continued improvement in practice. Some units may be delivered remotely, via MS Teams. |
Progression | You may progress onto the Level 5 Cert Ed or a Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship. |
