Course introduction

If you have mild learning difficulties and/or disabilities and would like to develop a wide range of skills , including employability,  in a supportive and inclusive environment, then this course could be ideal for you.

You will study English, maths, ICT, personal and social development  and employability skills.

Alongside this, you will take part in a range of vocational elements, which may include:

  • Art and Design
  • Enterprise Skills
  • Using Digital Technology

As part of the programme, students also benefit from a dedicated day each week at our Stoney Street campus, where they are taught by specialist art staff using industry‑standard equipment. This experience helps students build confidence and independence, develop a wider range of creative and digital skills, and opens up potential progression routes into art‑based pathways.

The course also includes a comprehensive enrichment programme, and some students will have the opportunity to take part in work experience placements and/or supported internships, helping them prepare for adulthood and future employment.

Entry 3 Gateway Qualification

No formal qualifications are required. We will invite you to sit an Initial Assessment and will be looking for a result of Entry Level 2 or Entry Level 3.

You will carry out work to achieve competence in each component of the course. You will be supported to produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your skills and achievements in each area of the programme.

You could progress to:

  • Entry 3 Advanced programmes
  • Level 1 programmes

Further career opportunities include:

  • Voluntary opportunities
  • Supported employment
  • Paid employment

The programme is fully supported and run in small groups. It endeavours to provide a positive and rewarding experience for each learner.

You can read about how we support our learners here.

As the year progresses you will be taken out of College on visits and activities which may incur a very small cost.

We also run various social clubs that you can join to increase your confidence and enhance your independent living skills outside of normal college times.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.

If you are aged 19 or over you may still be eligible for funding. Check out our Financial Help pages to find out more!
