This course is perfect if you are aged 19+ and wish to gain an insight into barbering and hairdressing and develop new skills.

During this introductory course, you will learn:

  • Basic information about the hair and beauty sector
  • Professional image
  • Health and safety
  • Shampoo and condition the hair
  • Styling and cutting the hair
  • Communication skills
  • Teamwork

You can expect a dedicated team of lecturers who work in the industry and have up to date relevant skills and experience.   

This course is a hands-on learning experience to ensure you gain a solid grounding in the main hairdressing and barbering techniques using high quality products.  

If you have not recently achieved a relevant Health and Safety qualification you may be required to study this during the course at an additional cost.

Course information

Gateway Level 1 Award Introduction to Hair and Beauty

You will need: 

  • To be aged 19+
  • A keen interest in the hair and barbering industry
  • A good level of English skills

Assessment is by written evidence of work undertaken and skills developed as well as photographs of work created.

You could progress on to a City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Hairdressing

Please note you need to provide your own model to complete treatments for the assessments.

You will be expected to wear professional dress that is all black and full black shoes.
