On 21 May 2026, we welcomed alumni, current learners, industry partners and colleagues to a special celebration event at the Heritage Site in Ruddington.
Held in partnership with Rail Futures Network Ltd, the event celebrated the achievements of our Level 2 Rail Engineering learners, past and present, while recognising the partnerships that help us deliver high-quality rail education and training opportunities.
Guests enjoyed an afternoon of networking, industry discussion and inspiring success stories from both former and current students. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the positive impact of rail engineering education and the exciting career pathways available within the sector.
A highlight of the afternoon was the presence of the iconic Royal Scotsman train, which provided a memorable backdrop for the celebrations and showcased the rich heritage and future opportunities within the rail industry.
Current learner Shane Hudson spoke about his experience on the programme and the opportunities it has provided.
"The practical side has been amazing. There's a lot to learn in a short space of time, but you build your knowledge quickly and I'm really enjoying it so far," he said.
Shane also highlighted the progression opportunities available through the programme, adding: "I've done a lot of different jobs in the past, but this course offers a clear path for progression and that's what attracted me to it."

Former learner Adam, who secured employment in the rail industry after completing the programme, reflected on how the course helped him take the next step in his career.
"I wish I'd done this course years ago. The railway offers so many opportunities and it's a career for life," he said.
Adam gained industry-recognised qualifications through the programme and is now employed within the rail sector. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue developing his career and eventually move into training and mentoring roles to support others entering the industry.

The event highlighted the value of collaboration between education providers and industry partners in developing the next generation of rail professionals. It also provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss emerging developments within the sector and strengthen the relationships that support learner success.
We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our rail engineering learners and grateful to our partners for their continued support in helping students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in the industry.
