Construction Students Gain Real-World Experience from Industry Experts at Basford Developments
As Basford's two new developments progress, construction students are getting an immersive, real-world learning experience.
Students are witnessing first-hand how professionals manage and construct large-scale buildings. The projects are led by local building contractor G F Tomlinson, who have already hosted several site tours for the students. This gives them a close-up view of the action and direct insights from industry experts about each project stage, from health and safety procedures and equipment to machinery, building techniques, and materials.
The two new facilities, a £5.4m centre for employment and independent living for Students with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities (SLDD), and a £5.4m Construction Skills Centre (CSC), are being built at the same time. These buildings will expand our Basford campuses construction and supported learning offers and increase our capacity to serve the construction industry's growing need for new skilled workers.
The CSC is expected to be complete by the end of September 2024 and ready to welcome students after the October half-term. Meanwhile, the SLDD centre is scheduled for completion by G F Tomlinson at the end of November 2024 and ready to open to students in early 2025.
