What do an astrophysicist-turned-entrepreneur, a future doctor, a ParalympicsGB leader and a solicitor all have in common?
They were among the many professionals helping students at our High Pavement campus think about what comes next at this year's Careers Day.
The campus was bustling with conversations about careers, university courses, apprenticeships and the many different routes available after sixth form. Students spent the day meeting employers, universities and industry professionals, asking questions and gaining a real insight into life beyond college.
Representatives from organisations including Boots, Experian, HMRC, the Civil Service and Nottingham University Hospitals were on hand throughout the day, alongside universities from across the UK. For many students, it was a chance to discover opportunities they hadn't previously considered and hear directly from people already working in those fields.
A standout moment came from keynote speaker Cheyenne, a St Lucian astrophysicist turned entrepreneur, whose journey from a small Caribbean island to a successful career in science, technology and business captivated students. Her message was simple but powerful: don't let your starting point define your ambitions.
Across the campus, workshops and talks covered everything from medicine, law and engineering to marketing, technology, apprenticeships and sport. Students also picked up practical advice on interviews, assessment centres, LinkedIn profiles and standing out to employers.
At Nottingham College, we're passionate about helping students build successful futures, whatever that looks like for them. Whether their next step is university, an apprenticeship or employment, events like Careers Day are designed to give them the confidence, knowledge and connections to make informed decisions.
A-level student, Dominic Jones, said
“I found (it) very useful having a range of different people, employers, and universities to talk to. It’s useful to be able to talk a variety of people and figure out what my options are after college”
A huge thank you to the universities, employers, organisations and guest speakers who joined us and helped make the day such a success. Their support gave our students a valuable glimpse into the possibilities that lie ahead.
