Course introduction

The MET1 module is a specialist assessment under the Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) for gas engineers working with domestic gas meters. Delivered part-time to suit working professionals, this course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to install, exchange, commission, and disconnect domestic gas meters safely and in accordance with current industry standards.

  • Meter Types & Functions: Understand the operation and characteristics of diaphragm and electronic gas meters.
  • Installation & Exchange Procedures: Learn correct methods for installing, exchanging, and removing meters, including pipework and regulator configurations.
  • Commissioning & Testing: Perform tightness testing, purge procedures, and meter commissioning in line with IGEM standards.
  • Safety & Compliance: Apply gas safety legislation, risk assessment protocols, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete relevant paperwork and records to ensure regulatory compliance.

The range of meters covered includes primary and secondary meters up to 6 cubic metres per hour capacity.

You must have an in-date Core Gas Safety certificate (CCN1).

Assessment is by practical tests and a theory exam.
