Course outline

This course is perfect if you are interested in stepping into a career in the hair and beauty industry, as this course will be the start of your journey.

You’ll learn how to correctly shampoo and condition hair, and styling techniques including plaiting, twisting and pinning.

You can expect lots of hands-on learning in our well-equipped hair and beauty salons to ensure you master all of the necessary skills.

You will also complete a range of practical and written assignments. As part of your course, you will also be required to obtain work experience.

Entry requirements

You’ll need

  • 4 GCSE’s at Grade 3-1 (D-G) including English and maths, one of which must be at grade 3 (D); OR
  • A relevant Entry 3 vocational qualification and an assessment to check you can achieve Functional Skills Level 1 English and Maths

All students must undertake and pass a practical dexterity test prior to enrolment to ensure you are suitable for this course.

Teaching & assessment

You will complete assignments, practical work, tests and coursework.

Progression

Choose to follow with further study at Nottingham College on a Level 2 hair, beauty or make-up course.

Additional information

There is an additional material cost for kit, equipment and uniform which must be purchased prior to enrolment, this is still to be confirmed and you can discuss this at interview.

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
