Course introduction

This new Level 5 HND top-up course is the natural progression from our well-established HNC qualification and offers a broad introduction to the dynamic and exciting world of global hospitality. Students will learn about operational practice as well as the strategic development of the UK, European and international hospitality industries.

Whether you are new to hospitality or have relevant previous experience and want to widen your horizons, this highly-regarded and globally-recognised qualification could enhance your future career prospects.

The course gives students the opportunity to specialise in a hospitality management-related area and to progress to degree-level study. The units prepare students to move on to specific areas of hospitality management at Level 6 or to enter employment with the qualities and abilities necessary for roles that require personal responsibility and decision-making.

This course will be based at our new £58 million City Hub campus, near Nottingham train station. The campus features state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, with our award-winning ‘Fletcher’s’ restaurant, café and live performing arts venue.

Level 5 units are planned to include:

  • Research Project
  • Hospitality Interpersonal Skills
  • The Hospitality Consumer Behaviour and Insight
  • Digital Marketing
  • Strategic Human Resource Management
  • Launching a New Business

The other 2 units allow students to study a strand of the hospitality industry in more detail - either Culinary Arts or 'Front of House':

  • Food Innovation (Culinary)
  • Barista to Bar Management (Hospitality)

Timetable (subject to change)

The current timetable is as follows but this is subject to change:

  • Tuesday 09:00 – 11:00, Wednesday 10:00 – 17:00 and Thursday 10:00 - 12:00
  • Plus self directed study

Please note: Some classes may be delivered online.
