Course introduction

This part-time course is designed for plumbing and heating professionals who install, maintain, or manage hot and cold-water systems in domestic and light commercial environments. Focused on the prevention and control of Legionella bacteria, the training ensures compliance with current health and safety legislation, including the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP L8) and HSG274 guidelines.

  • Understanding Legionella: Learn about the biology, risks, and health effects of Legionella bacteria.
  • System Risk Assessment: Identify potential sources of contamination and assess risk factors in water systems.
  • Control Measures: Explore effective methods for preventing Legionella growth, including temperature control, disinfection, and system design.
  • Monitoring & Record-Keeping: Understand legal responsibilities for documentation, routine checks, and maintenance schedules.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Gain knowledge of relevant legislation, including employer duties under COSHH and the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Water Regulations is advised but not essential, however you must have knowledge of plumbing and heating systems.

Assessment is by theory exam.
