Course introduction
This course is perfect if:
- You already have some experience or interest in music and want to develop your skills further in music technology, production and practical music-making
- You are motivated to explore how music is recorded, produced, edited and presented, and you want to progress towards specialist Level 3 study or careers within the music and creative industries
- You are a young person who enjoy hands-on creative work, using industry-standard equipment and software to develop your own musical ideas
You will learn about:
- The practical use of music technology, including recording, sequencing, editing and basic mixing
- Studio equipment, digital audio workstations (DAWs) and safe working practices
- Developing music projects from initial idea through to final production
- Creative techniques for composing, arranging and producing music
- Research and planning methods used in the music and production industries
- Communication skills for presenting ideas, reflecting on work, and working collaboratively
- Creative problem-solving, time management and independent working
- Preparing and completing a Final Major Project that showcases your skills and development
Course information
1 year
UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music, Performing and Production Arts
You will need 4 GCSEs at Grades 3-9, including English and Maths, one of which needs to be a Grade 4 or above.
Assessment includes:
- Coursework and project work
- Research and planning evidence
- Logs, evaluations and reflective writing
- Practical studio activities and rehearsals
- Music productions and performances
- A portfolio of work, including a Final Major Project completed at the end of the course
On successful completion of this course you could progress to UAL Level 3 Performing or Production Arts, or Music Performance & Production courses.
Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.
