Build a greener future: Retrofit for sustainability

This course is all about giving existing buildings, both homes and workplaces, a modern, eco-friendly makeover. You’ll learn how to upgrade and refit spaces using smarter materials and sustainable resources, helping to cut down energy use and reduce carbon emissions.

Whether it’s improving insulation, updating heating systems, or choosing low-impact materials, you’ll gain practical skills to make buildings more efficient, comfortable, and better for the planet.

Topics include:

  • How to upgrade buildings to a better Energy Performance Standard to gain higher grade Energy Performance Certificate (EPCs)
  • How to grade the EPCs
  • Cost savings on old buildings (e.g. LED lighting, efficient use of existing infrastructure)
  • Advice on free upgrades
  • Controlling damp

Course information

City & Guilds 7618-12 Level 2 Certificate in Retrofit

You must be aged 19+ and have an understanding, experience or a qualification in any of the construction trades.

You will receive ongoing formative assessment throughout the course.

You could gain full-time employment using the Retrofit qualification or progress to the Level 3.
