Our Hair and Beauty students have been making a real difference in the community this year, bringing smiles, confidence and connection to people across Nottingham, through treatments and skills they've learnt on their courses.
Our Level 1 Hair students recently spent four weeks visiting Fairway View Care Home, where they called in once a week to style residents’ hair and paint their nails. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and one the students will not forget any time soon. In fact, they enjoyed it so much they are already planning a return visit over the summer.
The time spent chatting and getting to know the residents was just as meaningful as the treatments themselves. One resident shared, “It was lovely spending time with the girls. They were so enthusiastic. I really enjoyed sharing photographs of my family with them.” Another added, “The college students styled my hair and did a really good job. It was lovely to spend time with them.”
Alongside this, a group of Level 1, 2 and 3 Hair and Beauty students have been supporting patients at the Nottinghamshire Hospice Pauline Davies Centre. Since January, they have been attending twice a week to offer a range of treatments including haircuts, hand and arm massages, shoulder massages and nail painting. Their visits have provided moments of relaxation and care for people going through very difficult times, as well as valuable real world experience for the students.
We have also been working with Hayward House at the City Hospital, where six Level 1 and 2 Beauty students took part in four visits. During their time there, they delivered treatments to both patients and their relatives, helping to create calm, comforting moments through simple but thoughtful care such as massages and nail treatments.
Across all of these visits, our students have shown outstanding professionalism, compassion and enthusiasm. They have represented our college brilliantly and demonstrated just how powerful small acts of care can be.
We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved and are already looking forward to building on this work with even more community visits planned for the next academic year.
