More than 50 A Level and GCSE students were recognised for their outstanding achievements on 1st July at a special awards ceremony held at our High Pavement Sixth Form (HP).
Lecturers nominated one student per year group in each of the 27 subjects offered, with each awardee receiving a certificate to mark their success.
The event brought together friends, family, lecturers, and college staff to celebrate a wide range of student accomplishments. These included 100% attendance, exceptional progress and commitment, contributions to the community, peer support, leadership, perseverance, and academic excellence.
Adam Beazeley, Assistant Principal at High Pavement, praised the students’ efforts, saying:
“This awards night is an amazing celebration of our fabulous students and our opportunity to praise them for their commitment, hard work, resilience, determination and academic prowess in what has been a strong academic year here at High Pavement. Each recipient has made a unique and valuable contribution to our college community, and we are incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved. For those students that are leaving us on completion of their study programmes, we really do look forward to tracing their future success in academia, employment and in life.”
GCSE Student of the Year 2025 went to Jakin Nganga, 18, who shared his surprise and excitement: “I was so shocked to hear my name announced at the awards. There were so many other deserving students. I really enjoy studying at High Pavement and I’m hoping to continue here for my A Levels in September, where I’ve chosen Law, History, and Psychology.”
A Level Student of the Year 2025 was awarded to Lyan Nassar, 16, for outstanding achievement, exemplary skills and attitude, and excellent attendance. She said: “I was absolutely thrilled to receive the Student of the Year award - it was such a wonderful surprise to receive such an award. I am greatly in debt to my teachers for their support along with the unwavering encouragement from my parents. This award feels like a shared achievement with them, my teachers, and my peers.
In honour of Mike Roussel - an integral part of our HP professional support team and a dedicated member of our security staff - we introduced a new award this year: The Mike Roussel Support Staff of the Year Award. The deserving recipient was GCSE Science Technician, Farrah Athar, who has worked at the college for over 20 years. She said: “It was a lovely feeling to receive the award – I actually felt a bit overwhelmed. Occasions like this make you feel very proud to be part of the college.”
