A group of students studying on our King’s Trust course recently got stuck in with a vital community project involving cleaning, tidying and repairing the buildings and gardens of Gedling Youth and Community Hub.

The former Gedling Station, which was built in the 1870’s, more recently served as a youth centre. But after falling into disrepair, the site was heading towards a future of being demolished or turned into housing. Local groups came together to form the Gedling Youth and Community Hub with the aim to raise funds and gain community support to restore Gedling Station and transform it into a young persons’ centre and community hub and heritage Centre.

Speaking about working on the hub, King’s Trust tutors Ash and Mark felt the experience was invaluable. Ash said: “I thoroughly enjoyed working on the community project with our students, it was great to see how they all pulled together to get the job done with such a fantastic team spirit!”

Mark said: “It was great seeing our students learn new skills and put them into practice. To see them feeling a huge sense of achievement is so rewarding and I'm really proud of all of them!”

Ryan from Gedling Youth and Community Hub said: “Thank you so much for making this wonderful project possible and for bringing your students to work with us. The trustees and the Chair of GYCH are thrilled and delighted by the fantastic results we’ve seen.

“It’s truly rewarding to witness the impact this has had, and we’re grateful for all the effort and dedication that was put into making it such a success.”

Well done to our King's Trust students for all their hard work and dedication to this project!
