Today, we welcomed Lilian Greenwood, Labour MP for Nottingham South, to visit the Gateway, our centre for Supported Learning students at Basford campus.
Lilian met students and staff from Nottingham College and had a tour around the facilities along with Janet Smith, CEO and Principal of Nottingham College.
The Gateway, our independent living and employability skills centre opened in May 2025, and since then has welcomed hundreds of young people aged between 16-24 who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) from across Nottingham.
On the visit, Lilian heard first-hand about the impact of Project Search and our supported internships, which last year celebrated an 80% success rate in progressing students into employment. Other initiatives pioneered by the Gateway include a reverse jobs fair where students were encouraged to pitch themselves to potential employers.
The Gateway is an increasingly popular choice for young people and their families who are looking for a supportive and holistic approach to education, which is situated next to mainstream provision.
Parents feed back that being close to so many progression routes in other faculty areas is a real benefit, inspiring students to continue their journey at Nottingham College in a familiar environment.
