This week (17th January), a collaboration with BBC East Midlands Today and the BBC Sunday Politics Show saw our Fletchers Theatre in our City Hub campus turn into a political Question Time auditorium.
Three East Midlands mayoral candidates: Claire Ward (Labour), Ben Bradley (Conservative) and Matt Relf (Independent), took part in a hustings event involving over 100 students and 50 staff and stakeholders.
The event was recorded and will be broadcast on Sunday’s (21st January) East Midlands Politics Show, kickstarting the BBC’s coverage of the East Midlands Mayoral elections which take place on 2th May this year.
The debate was moderated by Geeta Pendse, BBC presenter, and involved questions from students and staff at the college.
Level 3 Animal Management student, Vanessa Yeung, was in the audience and put the following question to the candidates - 'what happens when a council becomes financially challenged like Nottingham City Council?'.
The BBC crew was supported by students from our TV and Film and Journalism courses and new opportunities for a closer working relationship with the BBC have emerged, resulting in a weekly rota for journalism students to visit the BBC studios and participate in programme recordings.
Alex Slack is studying BA (Hons) Film and Digital Broadcast Production and was part of the supporting crew.
