Earlier this week, we ran a sustainability pledge competition as part of our Earth Day celebrations!
We had some fantastic entries, and it was very difficult to choose just two staff winners, but after some deliberation, a committee led by our college sustainability lead, Matt Bunn, chose the following two pledges:
“I entered the competition because I wanted to share my idea and encourage others to do the same. I'm excited to have won the bike because it'll encourage me to exercise more and use the car less!” Margaret Clark
“I entered the competition because I am currently participating and coordinating a global sustainability project with my creative media students that encourages them to focus on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The project focusses on writing and creating video documentaries around issues such as zero hunger, clean water, affordable energy, and climate action for example, and making positive actions around sustainability for them here at college and the wider community. Our learners get to work with students across the world but mainly in Indonesia, Cambodia and Africa.
“I am also passionate to make changes to my own life and behaviour, and cycling is very much part of that. I look forward to using the bike to commute to work from my home in Derbyshire, using some of the cycle lanes and trails which are wonderful. It'll help keep me fit too, which is a great benefit.” Richard Irwin
Our two student winners were GCSE maths student Abdul Shukoor Kakimi and Level 2 Beauty Therapy student Camelia Negrau.
