Over the Easter break, some of our fashion students had a pop-up shop in the Victoria Centre, exhibiting work, hosting workshops and selling independent handmade goods.

The shop featured collections of students work from fashion and art at Level 1 through to our FDA and BA(Hons) courses.

The exhibition and workshops are a fantastic opportunity for our students to see their work in a real local setting and learn how they could work as creatives in the future. The workshops also provide an opportunity to market the college and for students to develop their communication and teaching skills when working with the public.

Students held various workshops from tote bag painting, knitting and crochet, lino printing and an interactive paint your pet board.

Kathryn Burton, one of our Art and Design tutors, ran a lunchtime Employability and Work Experience club with level 2 students wanting to upskill. They learnt to develop skills that will help develop their personal brand, self-promotion and how to become self-employed as artists. The exhibition was an opportunity at the end of this course to test what they have learned and sell their artwork and promote themselves as artists.

On sale were also paintings and prints from Art students, handmade magnets, mugs, coasters and clothing from Off Beat Elite, a brand founded by one of our members of staff.
