Nottingham College students have done it again, with 49 students recognised for their exceptional talent at this year’s Young Creative Awards. The awards evening took place at Nottingham Playhouse on Wednesday 20th May, celebrating the very best of young creative talent across the city.

Now in its 18th year, the prestigious awards continue to grow, attracting hundreds of entries across 10 creative categories. This year, Nottingham College students delivered an impressive performance, winning seven categories and achieving 42 Highly Commended awards.

The celebration event also featured an exhibition showcasing the work of all finalists, highlighting the breadth and quality of young creative talent across the city.

Among the winners was Danny Abbott, who took first place in the Visual Arts 16–18 category for his film Watcher, inspired by George Orwell’s 1984. Danny, who studies TV and Film Production at the College, is aiming to progress to York St John University in September to study Film Studies and English Literature.

Judges praised the sophistication of Danny’s work, highlighting the range of creative techniques and approaches he used in producing his film.

Danny said:

“It was really exciting to be part of the Young Creative Awards. I was up against some tough competition in my category, so to hear my name called out as the winner was a big surprise.”

In the 19–24 Fashion and Textiles category, Bronwyn Crooks took first place with her collection Prismatic Order, which judges described as expertly constructed and demonstrating a strong understanding of brand identity. Bronwyn is currently in her second year of the College’s degree-level Fashion course and aspires to launch her own fashion brand in the future.

Bronwyn said:

“It was really exciting to win the award. The whole competition has been super cool to be part of. I’m really grateful to my lecturer who pushed me to enter – it’s been a lot of hard work, but so worth it knowing I’ve been recognised in this category.”
