Last week, the Steer Apprentice Skills Competition 2025 came to an end at Emtec, part of Nottingham College’s Ruddington campus. Apprentices from across the country showcased their expertise in body repair, with the finalists putting their skills to the test in five key areas: metal finishing, welding, jig alignment, plastic welding, and body repair with filler.
The competition began with 35 apprentices, who were selected to compete. Over three days, they honed their skills, working with real car parts provided by The Green Parts Specialists. This not only ensured sustainability but also gave the apprentices a hands-on experience with real-world repairs, aligning with Nottingham College’s ZERO agenda.
After a challenging series of tasks, the final six competitors faced off for the title. The skills displayed were impressive, and in the end, Daniel Thacker was crowned the 2025 Body Repair Champion. His dedication and talent earned him the top spot, and he will now represent the sector at the national WorldSkills competition.
A huge congratulations to Daniel and all the finalists: Daniel Woodhouse, Mikayal Muhammad, Jake Thomas, Oliver Robinson, and Emma Jamieson. Every one of them displayed remarkable skill and determination throughout the competition.
We also want to thank our sponsors, including The Green Parts Specialists, 3M, LKQ Bodyshop Division (UK & ROI), CAR-O-LINER, and John Stanners, for their support, as well as the judges and everyone involved in making the event possible.
Next up are the Automotive Refinishing Finals, where we’ll crown the Refinishing Skills Champion 2025.
