On the 26th of February, we celebrated the completion of the second Strive Programme cohort. This year, 23 students and their families gathered at our High Pavement campus library space to mark their achievements. The evening recognised students’ dedication, with awards presented for the best essays and outstanding contributions throughout the programme.

Strive is open to students with an average GCSE grade of 6.5 or higher, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with expert-led workshops, supercurricular activities, and university preparation sessions. With another successful year completed, the programme continues to empower students on their journey to higher education and beyond.

We had the chance to chat to Seren Hall and essay winner Ned Hussey-Patchett. They shared their insights about the programme and the support they received throughout their journey.

I think it's a great community that helps people thrive. You get the chance to speak to people from different fields like science, which I would never usually engage with, and we’ve had discussions that have been absolutely mind-blowing. It’s a space where you learn things you wouldn’t hear about otherwise, and that’s what makes it so interesting.

I really enjoyed some of the workshops, especially the session on acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, that was fascinating because it's one of the fields I'm interested in. The programme also gave me early access to information on work that most students won’t get until next year, which has been really useful as I prepare for my medicine application.
