As part of the ‘Fashion with a Conscience’ live brief project, our students were tasked with designing a unique range of reworked shell tops and upcycled accessories. Using pre-loved garments donated by White Rose, they embraced sustainable design practices to breathe new life into discarded clothing.

The collection officially launched on 19th June at a special event held across two White Rose stores in Nottingham city centre – WR4 in Hockley and WR6 in Market Square. The pieces are now available for purchase in-store, with all profits supporting White Rose’s charitable mission through the Aegis Trust.

Each garment in the collection reflects a distinct creative theme, ranging from Folk Tales and Kitsch to Rebellion, and is brought to life through slow fashion techniques such as embroidery, patchwork, and appliqué.

“Working with White Rose has been such an exciting and meaningful experience for our students,” said Alex Barnes, Course Leader for Level 3 Fashion & Textiles at Nottingham College. “They’ve not only developed professional design and manufacturing skills but also gained valuable insight into sustainable fashion and ethical retail.”

To celebrate the project’s success, shortlisted students were honoured at our End of Year Fashion Show, held at our flagship City Hub campus on 17th June, where members of the White Rose team presented prizes and certificates in recognition of their creativity and commitment.
