As an anchor institution in the city, we are proud to support Nottingham City Vision 2050, a shared ambition for how Nottingham will grow, evolve and succeed over the next 25 years.
The Vision is built around three pillars: Home, creating healthy and inclusive neighbourhoods where people can thrive; Heart strengthening Nottingham as a leading city at the centre of a growing regional economy; and Host, positioning Nottingham as a welcoming destination for business, culture, sport and visitors.
The Vision was launched on Friday 5th June at Nottingham’s Council House, with speakers including Mayor Claire Ward and Nottingham City Council Chief Executive Sajeeda Rose. Our very own Nottingham College Chief Executive and Principal Janet Smith also spoke, attending in her role as Vice-Chair of the Nottingham Growth Board.
Janet said:
“The vision could not have been developed without stakeholders, and it cannot be delivered without them either. We are all part of that bigger picture. Education and skills are a big part of the answer. They help local people access opportunities, but they are also fundamental when businesses and investors decide where they want to locate. Skills, talent and opportunity are critical to Nottingham’s future success.
We are not building a city from scratch. We are building on assets that already exist. What this vision does is create an integrated framework that connects initiatives that may previously have been seen separately, while creating opportunities for entirely new projects. There is real power and real opportunity in what Nottingham is setting out to achieve.
The vision has heart. But it will only come to life if organisations across Nottingham, educators, employers, investors, developers, community organisations and civic institutions, commit to playing their part.
This launch is not the end of the process. It is the beginning.”
Nottingham already has world-class assets, a legacy of bold thinking and a strong sense of identity. We are helping to turn that ambition into action through industry-responsive education, training and facilities that support the city’s future workforce.
- A broad and respected range of construction trade qualifications delivered from our £5.4 million Construction Skills Centre at Basford, supporting regional housebuilder targets and green skills training in renewable technologies.
- Our Engineering and Electrical Centre at Ruddington, helping meet demand in advanced manufacturing, electrical sustainability and renewable energy through high-quality apprenticeship training.
- Industry-standard digital and creative facilities including our Esports gaming development suite, TV studio and podcast studios at City Hub, supporting growth in the digital and creative industries.
- Our Green Skills Centre, offering courses that support carbon reduction and net zero ambitions, including EV charging, solar PV installation and retrofit upskilling in construction.
- Catering and Hospitality pathways that give students hands-on experience through Fletchers commercial restaurant, helping develop skills for careers in the fast-paced and exciting visitor economy.
- Popular Health and Social Care training, with many courses taught in our industry-standard hospital ward at City Hub, helping to meet workforce demand across health and social care.
- A trailblazer Youth Guarantee programme based at our Castle Meadow campus, supporting young people who are not in education, employment or training to build confidence, skills and employability.
- A new Defence and Military Pathway available from September 2026 for selected qualifications, designed to equip students with the skills and attributes needed for careers in the defence sector.
