As part of T Levels Week, we’re shining a spotlight on one of our fantastic employer partners, WigWag – a creative branding and web design agency based in Nottingham. Founded by Steve Ennis, with designer and former Nottingham College student Jemima Kullar now part of the team, WigWag has a long-standing relationship with the college and continues to play an important role in supporting young talent through industry placements.

From classroom to creative studio

For Jemima, welcoming Nottingham College students into the business is a full-circle moment. Having started her own career at WigWag as a student, she’s now helping to mentor others taking their first steps into the creative industry.

“My experience working with students from Nottingham College has been really rewarding,” said Jemima. “It’s amazing to see them grow from being inexperienced in the workplace to becoming part of the team – developing their technical and social skills, and growing in confidence. It’s a journey that I’ve been part of myself.”

Embracing the next generation of digital creatives

Founder Steve Ennis is just as passionate about the value T Level students bring to the workplace.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what the next generation of T Level students have to bring to the table in the new tech world,” said Steve. “They’ve got such a strong understanding of social and digital media, and it’ll be great to see how they put that into practice.”

Over the years, WigWag has been consistently impressed by the creativity and enthusiasm of the students they’ve hosted.

“We’ve had some amazing student designers,” Steve added. “That’s really been the basis of our business. We predominantly build websites that are illustrative, and that creativity often comes from the passion students have for design.”

A partnership that benefits everyone

Both Steve and Jemima spoke about the positive working relationship they’ve developed with Nottingham College and the support they receive in finding the right students.

“Taking on a student involves time, but it’s incredibly rewarding,” said Steve. “You get to see how they develop over time.”

“The team at Nottingham College are great at supporting us in choosing the right students and making sure everyone gets the most out of the relationship,” Jemima added.

Investing in the future

For WigWag, supporting young people through placements isn’t just about giving back – it’s also about keeping ideas fresh in an ever-changing industry.

“Our business is made up of a mixture of ages, but if it wasn’t for younger people coming through, we’d become static in our ideas,” explained Steve. “They bring new perspectives and their own take on how digital media has evolved.”

About WigWag

WigWag has been creating standout branding and web design for over 24 years. Originally focused on web design, the company has since expanded into branding, helping clients across a range of industries – including a unique niche designing illustrative websites for heating engineers.

Their long-term partnership with Worcester Bosch has led to the creation of fun, character-driven branding for installers, such as Bernie the Boiler.

And of course, the name WigWag perfectly reflects their creative personality. It comes from a nautical flag communication method – but the team decided to give it a twist by putting a pink wig on a dog. It’s a playful, memorable name that sums up their creative spirit and approach to standing out.

We’re proud to work with innovative employers like WigWag who inspire and support the next generation of creative professionals.

Their commitment to nurturing new talent shows just how powerful T Level placements can be in helping students bridge the gap between education and industry – and in keeping Nottingham’s creative sector thriving.
