Need extra help with learning? We’ve got you!
At Nottingham College, we want you to feel confident and supported in your learning. If you find some things tricky, like reading, writing, staying focused, or managing your emotions, we’re here to help.
Support starts early
Even before you start college, you can tell us if you need extra help. We’ll talk to you (and your parents or carers if needed) to understand what kind of support will work best for you.
This might include:
- Help in class from a support assistant
- Special equipment or technology
- One-to-one sessions or small group workshops
- Easier-to-read learning materials
- Help with planning and studying for exams
- Someone to talk to if you’re feeling worried or stressed
We’ll work with you to make sure you can do your best and feel good about your learning.
What kind of help can I get?
Once you’ve joined college and we’ve had a chat about what you need, you might get:
- Support in lessons or during breaks
- Help with reading, writing, or maths
- Special learning tools or resources
- Personal care support if needed
- Extra help with exams or revision
Support for Different Needs
We have staff who use British Sign Language (BSL) and can help you in lessons and around college. We also teach others how to be deaf-aware.
We’ll make sure you can take part in lessons fully, with any changes or tools you need.
Whether it’s stress, bullying, or something else, we’ll support you. You don’t have to tell your tutor or family if you don’t want to, just come and talk to us.
We’ll work with you and your family to create a support plan that helps you with things like:
- Dealing with change
- Meeting deadlines
- Understanding tricky ideas
- Social situations
- Staying organised
You’ll also have regular check-ins with a support tutor.
We can help with:
- Moving around college
- Personal care
- Taking medication safely
- Special exam arrangements
- Talking to your doctors or other professionals if needed
Our buildings are wheelchair-friendly, and we have lifts, ramps, and special facilities to help you feel comfortable.
You’re not alone
Whatever support you need, we’ll do our best to help. Just let us know, your success and happiness at college really matter to us.
