Find out more about our Esports students competing in the British Esports Student Championships.
Four students have come together to represent Nottingham College in the British Esports Student Championships, participating in the Student Cup for the popular mobile game ‘Player Unknown's Battlegrounds: Mobile’. This marks the college's inaugural participation in UK Collegiate Esports.
Logan Firth, Jamie Binney, Naman Gurung, and Ethan Hallam, all Level 2 Esports students who joined our new esports program this year, have quickly adapted to the competitive landscape of esports and are developing essential skills in teamwork, coordination, and communication that will contribute to their success in the upcoming competition over the next four weeks.
The team convened for practice, discussing strategies and defining team roles before engaging in several practice games in preparation for the official competition. During the match, they achieved early success, outlasting many of the 11 other competing teams before finishing just outside the top three
With a commendable 4th place finish in their inaugural game, the team now looks forward to Stage 2 of the competition taking place soon.
Team captain Logan Firth said:
"The game went well, but most importantly, we enjoyed competing and representing our college. I believe we worked effectively as a team, though additional practice will enhance our synergy and coordination, which we hope will lead to greater success in the upcoming rounds."
After all four rounds of the competition are completed, the highest-ranked team will have the opportunity to attend and compete in a showcase match at the 2024 PUBG MOBILE Global Championship finals in London this December, which is something all four students are thriving to achieve.
PUBG Mobile is a free-to-play battle royale game developed by Tencent and LightSpeed Studios.

!I’m really proud of what the team were able to achieve in such a short amount of time. Not only did they play well, but they acted professionally throughout the match and were great representatives of Nottingham College and the Esports course. Hopefully this is just the start of much bigger and better things in Esports for Nottingham College! "
