Hear about the project our creative media students undertook to celebrate spooky season!

Students across our Creative Media courses, worked together to create a spoof news show based in 2030. The project allowed them to network with students they may not otherwise cross paths with as well as learning to work alongside a brief and to a deadline.

Lecturer Rob Hitchens produced a script that was handed to students on Monday, with the project officially starting on Tuesday afternoon. They were then given until Friday to each film their groups segment of a news show with a spooky theme.

The show is set in 2030 following a zombie pandemic. It includes segments about zombies working at Nottingham College, missing influencers, pet werewolves and a zombie football team.

The project was a hands-on way for our learners to work together and produce a fun video with a tight deadline. These skills will be vital when working towards a career in their chosen subjects and working with multiple groups helped them set the foundations to network.

We spoke to some of the students who are studying Level 3 Film and TV Production, who were involved in the project. One of them, Sophie said:

"My roles were directing and operating the camera, which were skills I have learnt on my course so far. I really liked filming because we used some camera equipment that was new to me!"

We also spoke to Nathan, who said:

"We had a lot of free rein on the project so we could choose what we wanted to do and how we did it, which I really enjoyed. I liked working as a group because we could all share ideas and we really get along, so it was an enjoyable process."

Lastly, we spoke to Fifi, who told us:

"I have loved watching the final results and seeing the special effects work I had put into practice."

We also caught up with Rob Hitchen, one of our Performance and Media Lecturers, who said:

"This project has allowed the students to start a conversation and network which is vital in the media industry. It’s allowed the graphic designers, creative writers and film students to work alongside each other, which they might not usually have the opportunity to do."
