Course introduction

This course is perfect if you have a passion for sport, fitness, health and physical activity and would like to develop the knowledge and skills needed to work within the sport leisure industry. You will learn to build confidence, teamwork and communication skills. 

Topics will include:

  • Participation in sport
  • Understanding business
  • Preparing to work
  • Sport volunteering and work experience in the sport industry (ideal as you are placed at Portland Leisure Centre) Factors that affect participation and
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate an activity session

When you enrol onto the course, you will automatically be enrolled onto a Programme of Study which will include 

  • English and maths (if you haven’t achieved a Grade 4 or above)
  • Personal and Social Development lessons
  • Independent Study
  • 30 hours Work Experience

Along with your vocational study where you will develop and  get an understanding of the sport and leisure industry while gaining practical and transferable skills.

You can expect to have a supportive and engaging learning environment with a mixture of classroom learning and practical activities.  You will have the opportunity to work independently and as part of a team, becoming involved with industry relevant tasks and real life scenarios. With support to allow you to develop more confidence, organisational and communication skills.

The course is designed to be interactive and enjoyable while helping you prepare for future study or employment.

NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Working in Sport

You will need 4 GCSEs at grades 9-3 including English Language and maths, one of English Language or Maths must be grade 9-4.  Functional skills can be used as equivalents

Assessment is completed through coursework and portfolio-based evidence.  The assessment could be a written assignment, practical activities, projects and presentations and group work, which will be on going throughout the course, allowing you to demonstrate your progress over time. 

Successful completion of the course can lead to a Level 3 qualification (dependent on entry requirements), apprenticeship in sport, leisure or fitness, further study or entry  level roles within the sport and leisure industry. 

Students aged 16-18 don't have to pay tuition fees.

Uniform is essential to the effective operation of the UK’s uniformed services. As a result, this course requires you to purchase a uniform (approximately £50) at the start of the programme, which must be worn at all times when participating in college activities. 

You may also be offered additional educational trips designed to support your learning and develop the skills needed for your professional development. These trips may involve extra costs. Full details of any potential additional expenses will be provided at enrolment.
