Tracy Fearon Wins Multicultural Apprenticeship Award in Construction

Tracy Fearon, an electrical apprentice at Nottingham College working at Nottingham City Council Housing Services, has been awarded the prestigious Multicultural Apprenticeship Award in Construction. This achievement celebrates Tracy's inspiring journey, dedication to apprenticeships, and advocacy for apprentices.

The Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards aims to showcase talent and diversity within multicultural communities through the celebration of those working hard to overcome adversity to achieve their goals through apprenticeships. The awards highlight the achievements of apprentices and the contribution of employers and learning providers who have assisted them along their journey.

This award coincides with the celebration of Black History Month, and with a Jamaican father and British mother, Tracy's achievement is particularly meaningful.

At a young age, Tracy wanted to be a plumber but found the lack of women in the industry made it difficult. After attending a careers fair at Nottingham College for her son, Tracy's passion for the field grew. A conversation with another female trade apprentice sparked her interest, leading her to discover her love for electrics. Tracy successfully secured an electrical apprenticeship opportunity at Nottingham City Council Housing Services.

Throughout her apprenticeship, Tracy has been a strong advocate for apprenticeships, actively participating as a speaker at apprenticeship events, careers fairs, and women in construction events. Her dedication, perseverance, and talent has inspired others to secure apprenticeships.

Tracy was nominated by her apprenticeship advisor as she also recognised her resilience as a mother and as a mature student balancing family life and work commitments.
