Course introduction

This course is perfect if you’d like to take the first steps towards a career in IT and improve your confidence, by developing a range of digital skills and if you don’t yet have the grades to enrol onto a level 1 or level 2 programme of study.

You’ll learn the basics of good business practice, developing your skills in areas such as being organised, working with others, plus researching a topic, which are great transferable skills for work.

Units include:

  • finding and using information on the internet and then using these to create documents, images and presentations
  • understanding how to be safe and responsible online
  • communicating socially and professionally using email, messaging and social media
  • accessing services or applying for a job online.

Being more confident using the internet and communicating online can:

  • help you keep in touch with new technologies such as AI
  • increase your chances of getting a job that requires digital literacy
  • improve your access to information, advice and services
  • will open up learning, training and career opportunities

You can expect the opportunity to demonstrate the skills you’ll learn in applied scenarios, with a range of assessment methods. You’ll be encouraged to develop your skills along the way by supportive staff.
